This bread is so tasty and addictive. Toast it and spread a dollop of Nutella over it. Or dip it in curry. It’s so so good. One thing for sure is that I’ll never be buying Gardenia loaves ever again. Alfred being a bread lover was seen hanging around the bread. That explains the missing jar of Nutella in my cabinet…
Makes 2 loaves:
- 2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup oil
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 5 – 6 cups all-purpose flour
- Mix warm water, yeast, oil and honey in a large bowl. Let sit for about 5 minutes until you see foam on the surface – which means the yeast is at its work.
- Then, add salt and egg. Stir all together.
- Add the flour, one cup at a time, stirring together after each cup. Around the 5th cup your dough will begin to come together pulling away from the sides of the bowl and forming a ball.
- Empty the dough onto a clean, floured surface and begin kneading the dough, adding a little more flour as it becomes sticky. It should be slightly sticky.
- Knead until smooth, firm and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and set aside to rise until double.
- Punch the risen dough and divide it into 2 loaves.
- Place it in a well greased loaf pan.
- Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celcius.
- Set aside to rise until almost double once again.
- Bake loaves for 25-30 minutes. They should be golden brown on top when done.
- If the bread is not consumed within a day, it’s best to be kept refrigerated.
