In our household we use solar energy for water heating. I told Svadhi that we will only be able to take hot shower if the day is sunny. So sometimes we find ourselves showering in cold water when it rains for days. She understood the connection between a sunny day and hot shower. I often hear her exclaim “Amma, hot sun, svadhi bathe hot water”.
I taught her to be thankful for all the basic things in our life – like a beautiful sunny day – clothes get dried and we enjoy the luxury to shower in hot water. It only recently strike me how she appreciates simple things like this. She grasped the interconnectivity between our daily activities and Mother Nature. It’s things like this that keeps us grounded and thankful. And I am happy to impart that to my child.
