Svadhi’s first encounter with turtles and its hatchlings was when we went to Cherating with fellow homeschooling moms. When she saw the basket full of 1-hour old turtle hatchlings, I knew that a question was in order. But didn’t expect it to be a difficult one.
With a serious look on her face she asked “Amma, baby turtles here. But where’s mama turtle?” A very valid question. I had to explain the entire turtle conservation and rehabilitation program to her. Finally she got the whole idea and exclaimed: “Oh!” A big revelation for her.
